Youth Worker training in self-harm issues

Recent research into the problems faced by young people has shown that the biggest issues are not drink, drugs or alcohol, but suicide and self harm.

Youth Worker, Craig Hutton says “I cried my eyes out when I heard this, and the fact that the majority of young people don’t talk about it. The young people we work with maybe suffering in silence.”

Resulting from this, Craig and others decided to run a full day event on the subject, open to youth workers and others working with young people. The day will be run by Davy Hutton, who is highly qualified in psychological trauma management and has worked with youth workers all over Northern Ireland. Davy will open up the issues and help participants deal with them in a professional way.

The event will be held at St Mary’s church in Hadleigh – home of the Porch Project.

Craig again “What do you say when a young person says ‘I want to kill myself’? Or ‘I cut myself to cut the ugliness away’. How do we as people working with young people deal with this in the correct manner? This day should help us find some answers in response to this increasing problem in the UK”
