Good News at the Suffolk Show – and beyond

A change in their constitution now allows The Good News Stand team to take the gospel to locations other than the Suffolk Show.

Chairman, Charles Riddleston says “We want to go to as many venues as possible, so your ideas (and, of course, prayers/donations) as to where we could go would be appreciated. If you do have suggestions, please do get back to me about this.”

The team had a stand at the South Suffolk Show near Bury St Edmunds on Sunday 8th May. This was a much smaller affair than the one at the Suffolk Show, but the ethos was the same as ever - to promote and celebrate the gospel of Jesus Christ. The weather stayed kind, although a little blustery at times and sunshine was enjoyed for most of the day. A good number of folk were spoken to and many gospel tracts given out.

Charles again “We’re considering applying to attend more country type shows, indeed, we’ll go almost anywhere to meet the public and share the good news of our Saviour. For example, I can tell you that The Good News Stand will be ‘exhibiting’ at the Eye Show on August 28th and 29th.”

“As with anything else, the work costs money. The more we do, the more we have to pay out in terms of literature etc. and site fees. We are financed only by donations; so, if you feel that you’d like to contribute to the spread of the gospel, we’d be most grateful to receive any sum from you. Cheques should be made payable to The Good News Stand.”

I wish Charles well.I have been at the Suffolk Show for the last few years working at the Cathedral Tent as a craft helper/storyteller/face painter. During my breaks I have enjoyed a wander around the show and visiting other stalls. The Good New Tent I have visited each year. I do hope that this year it is better. It was somewhat boring and certainly the children's material was very dated. If we want to spread the Good News of Jesus we need to do it in such a way that will attract people into the tent and have vibrant and relevent materials for people today. So my prayer that the tent will be much better and people will come in to learn more - not be put off Christianity or think it is out of date and boring. These were some of the comments I got from others who had visited the Good News Tent when they came to the Cathedral one. It is expensive to have a tent. All the more reason that it should be bright and up to date with younger people manning it and providing attractive materials. Hope to see you this year again with a livlier tent.

Well, Mr/s Haggis. Ouch

Are you "Wild" due to lack of cultivation or lack of taming, I wonder?

Do come along to our Stand this year and see our new marquee, the Alpha & Omega CMT rally car, motorbikes from the Christian Motorcyclists' Association and (on the first day) puppets.

Re your comment about "younger people" manning the stand, what would you say is the upper age limit. I'm 53. Am I too old?

Will be good to meet you.

Praise be to our Jesus!

Hi Charlie
Would a second hand Christian bookstall be a good idea? I am sure we might have a few books we could donate?
All the best for the Suffolk Show, David and I will pop in for a visit.

Wild Haggis is older than 53. But don't tell him/her that I said so!

Anyway, s/he is forever young!
